Alpha Tau Chapter of Sigma Chi Eta
Sigma Chi Eta (SCH) is the official community college honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA).
Sigma is the greek letter for “S”–representing STUDENTS.
Chi is the greek letter for “C”–representing COMMUNICATION.
Eta is the greek letter for “H”–representing HONORS.
So, STUDENTS in COMMUNICATION with HONORS!
What do I need to do to be eligible?
- First, you do NOT have to be a Communication Studies major!
- Have at least 12 units of college credits
- Have at least 9 units in communication studies courses
- Have an overall GPA of at least 3.0
- Have a GPA of 3.25 in communication studies coursework
How do I apply?
To apply for membership, please email Advisor Stephanie Fondren at firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “SCH membership.”
When will I get inducted?
Induction can happen at any time during the fall or spring semesters. We do have a special ceremony at the Communication Studies Club Leadership Awards at the end of the school year.
How much is it?
The student membership fee is $30.00. As this is an official national honors program, this fee is determined by the national office. For that fee, you will receive a lifetime membership into the society, a certificate of induction and a pin identifying you as an honor society member.
Honor cords for graduating students are available for purchase ($10.00). The colors represent honors (white) and communication (crimson).
How will I be verified for my coursework and GPA?
The advisor will check your communication studies coursework and GPA (overall and communication studies coursework). You will need to bring in transcripts on your cell phone, hardcopy or online.
Where do I get the application?
You can print it out, visit us in C-207-3 or visit Advisor Stephanie Fondren in C-206 for a copy of the application.

This stole is dedicated specifically for Communication Studies majors.
What is a graduation stole?
A long shawl that is worn over the shoulders designed to identify majors.
What do the colors represent?
Light Blue represents Education.
Maroon/crimson represents Communication.
How much is a stole?
Stoles are sold at cost to students and are only available through the advisor. We hope to keep the price under $25.
