Alpha Tau Chapter of Sigma Chi Eta

sceSigma Chi Eta (SCH) is the official community college honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA). Every year, Sigma Chi Eta inducts and rewards new outstanding Communication Studies students who are exploring options in their community college, to transfer to four-year colleges or universities or enter the workforce. Once inducted, a student is a member for life and is expected to strive for excellence (NCA 2017).

What do I need to do to be eligible?

  • Have at least 12 units of college credit
  • Have at least 9 units in communication studies courses
  • Have an overall GPA of at least 3.0
  • Have a GPA of 3.25 in communication studies coursework

How do I apply?

To apply for membership, please email Advisor Vera Holder at with the subject line “SCH 2018 – 19”.

When will I get inducted?

We induct new members at the Communication Studies Club Award Recognition Ceremony at the end of the school year.

How much is it?

The student membership fee is $30.00. This fee is determined by the national office. For that, you will receive a lifetime membership into the society, a certificate of induction and a pin identifying you as an honor society member. Honor cords for graduation students will be available for purchase ($10.00).

How will I be checked for my coursework and GPA?

Advisor Vera Holder, will check your communication studies coursework and GPA (overall and communication studies coursework). You can bring in transcripts on your cellphone, hardcopy or online.

Where do I get the application?

You can print it out, visit us in C-207-3 or visit Advisor Vera Holder for a copy of the application.

How mush is a sash?

Sashes are available to purchase $20.00 in Advisor Vera Holder office C-207. Rentals are also available (please contact Advisor Vera Holder for details).

Yes! This sash is designed with light blue and maroon/ crimson colors for Communication Studies majors.
