Domestic Violence Awareness
In honor of our former professor Kesha Curtis Hondo, who was a victim of domestic violence, the Communication Studies Club has a clothing drive every October acknowledging Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month. This clothing drive happens every year. The club has been able to gather truckloads of clothing for children, men and women along with toys, shoes and school supplies which are donated to a local charity that helps victims of domestic violence.
David Gonzalez–former club member and vice president–created a documentary about domestic violence, its cycle and how we can all help stop it from growing. The title is 1000th Crane and is viewable on YouTube (link is below). For more about the meaning of the cranes visit Professor Fondren’s office and read about “Kesha’s Flight.”
